obscurity of his
subject...

Michael started drawing at a very young age,
keenly aware of AND CURIOUS about the underlying essence of things,
a sense of interconnectivity that he yearned to depict, but couldn't articulate
with the structural limitations of representational art...
​​

LANDscapes, etc.

all of which
convey the observable (surface).
This prompted a re-evaluation of Michael's creative process
compelling him to adopt the Psychoanalytic and Surrealist method of
1992
(random mark making)
not in rebellion, but as a compliment to more traditional techniques, purely employed for the development of a more specialized visual vocabulary.
As a result, the imagery in Michael's work is rarely linear in practice, but instead submits to the will of a hidden message, yearning to be ILLUMINATED
TRANSLATED
and INTEGRATED into rational thought;

ultimately arriving at Surrealism as the Result of serious inquiry, rather than as a Means for pure spectacle.
