The Cumbersome Fire
1997

Medium:
Oil on Felt Matboard
Dimensions:
18 x 24 inches
Genre/Style:
Representational Art
Description:
For such a simple piece, this painting represents a crossroads moment that truly exposed me to the complexities of attraction (in real life).
On the surface, this portrait is a moody representation of a woman who is backlit.
But, in reality, the implied source of light is a romantic flame that, although shared between us, became mostly her burden; not only because she was married, but also, because of my inexperience (even in less complicated situations) which left me unprepared and ill equipped to help direct the outcome.
