Description:
It would be easier to say that this painting is about the ex who is "responsible" for this Blue period. But, that would be unfair to her, specifically, but to you and I as well, ultimately depriving us both of a revelation and true meaning of the work.
So, in reality, this is a projection piece that addresses feelings of abandonment. Although, I also may not have realized it at the time, with the wound so fresh.
Searching for Self is an examination of the cycle of life and death, as we experience it in so many different ways throughout our lives, whether through an actual loss of a loved one, or, in the loss of a relationship (as in this case).
At the center of this new begging is a fully animated and acute awareness, consciousness, trying to rediscover itself and to re-establish a footing, after feeling as if the rug has been pulled out from under you.
The likeness in this painting is that of my ex. But, the loss and disorientation were my own.
