Description:
For the few who met and knew Richard, it seems delightfully fitting to say that Richard is purely representational here, both literally (as the subject in this painting) and figuratively (as a person). He was a seemingly reflective vesel, telling you what you wanted to know, even if it wasn't always what you wanted to hear.
Richard understood the language of life, even if he was half-homeless; and, he knew how to read between the lines in conversations... because... he listened, intently.
But, this painting isn't a commentary or observation. It is simply a recreation of a photo I once captured while hanging out with Richard (and another friend) at Denny's, in the wee hours of the morning.
And, he would appreciate me saying that any story you find hiding in this painting's imagery is entirely your story to tell... as it should be.
