Makeshift Trees
1996

Medium:
Oil on Canvas
Dimensions:
16 x 20 inches
Genre/Style:
Surrealism
Description:
Similar to The Entrance Door, there were no real intentions or preconceived ideas when starting this painting. Instead, it was a spontaneous composition that took shape through the use of both conscious and unconscious associations.
Makshift Trees is a set of contrasting female figures, one aroused and the other dreaming, amid two treelike structures that I interpret as abstracted reflections, both emerging from streams of unrationalized consciousness and representing the psychological obscurities of their female counterparts.
