Expressive Devices
2000

Medium:
Oil on Canvas
Dimensions:
16 x 20 inches
Genre/Style:
Surrealism
Description:
Like most of my work, the painting came first and informed the title, Expressive Devices.
So, although I can't honestly say that my intentions were to convey this or that for this painting, its details still perfectly reflect the idea that communication is so much more than words; whether through a welcoming smile or a telling glance, a heartfelt gesture or an unconsious betraying manner. So much of what we say is subliminal, and demands more of our attention.
That doesn't mean that I know how to read all the signs, of course. But... the very existence of this painting is proof that I too often communicate (or express) with my hands (through the use of paints and brushes).
