Description:
A Feast for Thieves was an uncomfortable painting to produce and an even more difficult painting to accept as part of my portfolio; primarily because of its overt eroticism.
The real conflict, however, begins with the title, which was intended as a criticism against unscrupulous promiscuity, despite the glaring contradiction in the imagery itself, which almost glorifies the act of sexual intercourse; even with the implied "violation" or transgression conveyed in a bloody veil, ultimately used to mask the work's true intention.
This, of course, then led me to question whether the title was actually a rebuke, of sorts, directed at myself (as part of the tug-of-war taking place between consciousness and sub-consciousness, as I dove deeper into the unknown through my work).
Nonetheless, in hindsight, I recognize that exposed inconsistencies such as this, between an ideal and my painted voice, were necessary; not just in identifying incongruities; but, by extension, as important first steps toward overcoming psychological obstacles.
So, what does this piece actually say?
Well... it is both an expression of jealousy (toward those who were indulging in delights that seemed forbidden to me) and disgust (for the flippancy often surrounding these exploits). All the while, of course, this scene unfolded on canvas as an orgy of frenzied arousal that was objectively pursued to satisfy my own sexual yearning.
