Description:
On the Stairs, Thinking is a mental projection of me on familiar stairs, at Lubbock High School, but without the busy uproar of unwanted wandering students.
Of course, because of this drawing's wild lines and a simplistic structure, it's easy (even for me) to dismiss this piece as a meaningless doodle.
However, when seen in context, as I was on the verge of graduating high school and feeling uncertain about what awaited me (beyond the structural familiarity of my high school years) this drawing certainly was certainly a meditation, as I contemplated what lied ahead.
It would soon be time to provide for myself, which was an overwhelming prospect, and I didn't know how else to process or deal with the influx of unresolved questions and emotions, except through art (where I was always able to escape distraction).
