Encountering the Unknown

Description:

"Encountering the Unknown" is about uncertainty and the impulse of fear, which is often irrational.

The subject in this painting has been stripped of her clothes (which is symbolic of her identity and confidence) and backed into a corner; with seemingly no escape... except for a doorway to an unknown destination.

This dark door, of course, is psychologically perceived as a threat; although, not because her life is in any actual danger; but instead, because she can't see the outcome of crossing through that threshold... which could also simply be an unrecognized opportunity.

And, the only way to find out... is to take that step.
